Sunday Selections – #25 Me on the 365 Popular Page

Today I am once again joining in with Kim at Frog Ponds Rock (this week hosted here by her daughter, the amazing and talented Veronica )in posting some pretty pics of my life…….

I have been lucky to have four of my photos appear on the Project 365 Popular Page in the past few weeks.  I don’t know that they are particularly good, nor that they are what I consider my best, but I am thankful to have them featured … ironically some were featured on what were very sad days for me (anniversary of Greg’s death, and a tragic event that occurred to a school family just days before).  Seeing my photos on the popular page gave me such a lift when my spirits were low….

My first photo to make the popular page was one that I had heavily edited … but still, I was so happy to be featured (7th Feb, 2012).

This one was up for a long time as well, beginning 28/2/12

This one also stayed up for several days, first appearing on March 1, 2012 – the anniversary of Greg’s death. It was such a lift to my spirits to see it featured.

Finally,

This photo was taken on March 1 as the children and I visited Greg’s grave. I don’t think it’s technically good, but the response from kind people on 365 was overwhelming and it was featured on the popular page on March 3, 2012.

Such a seemingly simple thing that has lifted my spirits … I have been striving to improve my photos since I began Project 365 just before Greg died and it has taken me two full years to take photos that warranted an appearance on that page…. a page that has provided me with inspiration and technical information to enable my to develop as a photographer … to the point where I consider myself to be reasonably OK at taking photos!

I am so thankful…

Just as I’m thankful to all you kind people who continue to follow my journey here and on my other blog(s).

Sunday Selections #23. More backyard wildlife

Today I am once again joining in with Kim at Frog Ponds Rock in posting some pretty pics of my life…….

Janice is another member of our frog band who are a cover band of the Muppet band, Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

…and stays out of the way of The Very Enormous Python:

The Very Enormous Python has apparently been visiting my chooks for weeks now as I’ve heard the loud “bang” as he tries to strike them.  I now suspect that he has only been eating the eggs thus far, but he’s certainly big enough to take on a full grown chicken (he’s as fat as my arm and well over 2 m long … I think … he doesn’t often fully uncoil himself).

Sunday Selections #22. In my garden.

Today I am once again joining in with Kim at Frog Ponds Rock in posting some pretty pics of my life…….

This week in my garden, I saw this…..

Banksia
These two little spikes have made me so happy. Greg gave me this plant many yeas ago. He planted it by the mail box so we’d see if every day. It sat and sulked for the first few years. Then it grew lots of shoots, still none of the promised golden candles.
Last year, the grass tree flowered for the first time, this year it looks it will be the Banksia’s turn. Sad to think that the boy who planted both for me won’t get to see them finally flower.
I will be watching for these bud-filled spikes to flower in the coming weeks.

Sunday Selections #19. Trees.

Once again, I am joining in with Kim at Frog Ponds Rock in posting some pretty pics of my life……. (and you should  check-out Kim’s blog today because she is doing something ridiculously awesome).

Today’s topic is trees.

I love them.

A lot.

I even have a Doctor of Philosophy based on research I did on them.

You get the picture?

Oh wait – HERE are the pictures:

Sunday Selections #18 Holiday snaps

I’ve missed a couple of weeks again due to … well due to “stuff happening” …. but once again, I am joining in with Kim at Frog Ponds Rock in posting some pretty pics of my life…….

These are the ones I’m happy to share here, but regular readers can view other  photos on facebook or 365.

Back in the school holidays, the kids and I went to a nearby island with my parents.

We used to holiday here every year as a family, and going back there is something the kids specifically asked to do to remember their wonderful Dad….
